I see my work as a way of conveying an emotional connection to Nature. When I begin a painting I start intuitively not knowing where the painting will take me. I make gestural marks with pencils and paint, lift out and paint over. I start on one path but then may turn onto another. In doing so I build up these layers in an effort to make visual an emotional response to past experiences in the landscape. As each painting evolves they become an exploration of my own feelings and insights to the essence of the landscape that has inspired them.
My work in printmaking began in college. Over the years my prints became a blend of abstract landscape and atmospheric prints. I love the unique marks and inkiness in these pieces created by the process of collograph, monoprint or etching. Often I combine print techniques to create small limited works that reflect the uniqueness of the process and subject.
My printing technique and painting process share a similar thread and in my current work they feed each other. This combination continues to bring me down a new undiscovered path in the landscapes of my painting.
